Emergency response for WHO in Zimbabwe July 26, 2009 16:52

Wagtech demonstrated its ability to respond rapidly in times of emergency recently when it supplied 70 Potatests and large quantities of consumables to World Health Organisation (WHO) in Zimbabwe.

Following on from the recent tragic Cholera epidemic in the country it was determined that water quality monitoring capacity needed to be substantially upgraded. It was decided that bids would be invited internationally for the supply of portable water testing kits. The water test kits were to be procured through the African Regional Office of the World Health Organization (AFRO) based in Brazzaville, Congo. This was a competitive bid and the tender requirements were based upon a rival manufacturers kit.

However, the investment made by Wagtech in holding large levels of stock for its UN partners for emergencies paid dividends. Because of our ability to deliver these kits instantly, Wagtech was able to secure the contract and supply its own manufactured kit. Wagtech supplied the equipment within two weeks and followed up this delivery with training in Zimbabwe for Ministry of Health technicians, the recipients of the kits. Within a week of the kits arriving in Zimbabwe, staff from Wagtech in the UK were there conducting the training. A truly Rapid-Response contract. This success story highlights the need for large levels of stock-holding for our Emergency range of products. This is a pledge that Wagtech is pleased to be able to make as we continue to support our partners in the humanitarian sector.
