Wagtech in Latin America April 18, 2009 20:15

Considered as virgin territory, Wagtech’s Business Owner, Neil Francis Durham attended a high profile UK Environmental mission to South America. Organised by the UK TPI’s Environmental Industries Support Unit ( EISU)

An intensive (and sometimes hectic!)  but thoroughly well organised mission, saw wall to wall meetings with Government Ministers, Ambassadors,  Ministerial Buyers and a whole host of Environmental experts. Thanks to the respective Commercial Sections of the British Embassies in Bogotá, Quito and Lima, we were able to fast track our penetration into these exciting markets. In addition, Neil managed to screen, interview and appoint Agents in Ecuador and Peru whilst discussions in Colombia are still ongoing in a positive light.

Whilst the mission also consisted of other UK Company’s representing the waste, landfill and consultancy sectors, Neil’s dynamic approach of demonstrating Wagtech equipment went down extremely well. Carrying a “Joint Monitoring Project” portable water testing kit (JMP kit) it was possible to conduct numerous live demos. Thus potential clients were able to see the Wagtech technology in use (or “magic box” as it became known), plus seeing indigenous live samples analysed for amongst many other tests,  coliforms, pH, conductivity, turbidity, arsenic, chlorine, fluorides and nitrates.

Recently Wagtech was awarded a  global 24 month Long Term Agreement Procurement contract with UNICEF (LTA) and it was pleasing to see UNICEF in Colombia kick off the buying with an order for a Potatest. This followed on from the recent order in Guatemala for x30 Potalabs and in  Nicaragua for x5 portable heavy metals analysers plus numerous training consultancies.

Perhaps the highlight of the trip was the order from 4 Ecuadorian municipalities for x29 Wagtech CP1000 portable physico chemical testing labs. Wagtechs “second Neil” ( Wrigglesworth) will soon fly to Quito in order to carry out in country training on the use of the kits. The recently appointed exclusive Wagtech Agent, Dr Xavier Freile sees this as a sound investment and a true way of further eroding Wagtech’s competitor’s market share. A proposal for x3 vehicle based mobile laboratories is currently under review by a major Ecuadorian Government Water Company and we hope to conclude this business within the next few months.

Peru’s challenging environment of mountains, coast, desert and tropical rain forest has a great need for Wagtech technology and our newly appointed agent CEPIS in Lima concluded an order within 3 days of Neil’s return to the UK. Peru hosts the regional WHO Centre for Water Quality for the whole of Central and South America and  and Wagtech have been invited to run a regional seminar for over x15 countries in the coming months.

We will be returning to Peru in September to attend the International Mining Fair in Arequipa in September. Here we intend to demonstrate our full range of portable water quality laboratories and water test kits to buyers from over 30 countries where mining is a major industry but also of an Environmental concern.
